Swellex rock bolting system
Epiroc have offered Swellex as a stable, safe and reliable system of rock support for the past 30 years.
Efficient rock support solutions
Ongoing development of faster, safer and more exotic tunneling techniques places a constant pressure on manufacturers to provide more efficient rock support solutions which will help the shortening of cycle time.
Swellex rock bolting system
Swellex rock bolting system has gained recognition in the mining and tunneling industry. The installation process is simple and similar to rock bolt installation; making Swellex rock bolts accessible to all operators.
Extensive application range
The speed and quality of installation and the extensive application range have solved support problems and increased profitability for contractors and mine operators all over the world.
Swellex rock bolts
Since its introduction 30 years ago the Swellex expandable rock-bolting system has gained wide recognition in the mining and tunneling industry.
This unique rock bolt consists of a welded tube folded in upon itself, sealed at one end. It is re-expanded using a high pressure water flow provided by a special pump and adapter. The bolt is expanded inside the borehole drilled into the excavation wall.
The installation process is easy and very similar to other rock bolt installation processes; making Swellex rock bolts accessible to all operators. Rock bolting systems are used to stabilize excavated rock mass in underground mines and tunnelling.
Rock bolts are systematically arranged to transfer the load from the unstable surface or exterior of the rock, to the much stronger interior part of the rock. The rock mass can be reinforced by different types of rock bolts.
Epiroc offers the following Swellex expandable rock bolting systems.
Premium
Designed as a daily support to provide safety and productivity for optimum control of the rock mass in mining and tunnelling. Made from specially engineered steel, these rock bolts offer high yielding and breaking load while perserving good elongation properties for safety. The connectable line of Swellex rock bolts, Pm24C, is a true alternative as long secondary support to secure potentially unstable areas or to control dilution while boosting productivity. The Swellex Premium line also comes in a plasticoated version for corrosion protection.

Swellex pumps
Choosing the right pump for you
Users should know the availability of water, air and electricity in the loctations where the pumps will be used.
A comparison of the various input requirements with the available services is neccessary in order to make an educated choice on the best type of pump to use.
- Installation with a hydraulic rig tends to favor the hydraulic pumps but the electric and pneumatic pumps can still be an option as they can be easily installed on most rigs and more rudimentary bolting equipment.
- Flexibility requirements can also affect the choice of the pump as the operator may need a pump that can be used in various environments that do not always have all the same service availability.
- Finally, the hydraulic and electric Swellex pumps have the lowest maintenance cost of the three types available at Epiroc.
Swellex smart pumps – with intelligence built-in
Swellex HC1-L and EC1-L pumps take control for a perfect installation, every time. Bolts are not released until recommended pressure is reached for a minimum period of time to deliver best performance of the Swellex rock bolt.
Swellex HC1-L and EC1-L pumps log installation parameters, providing you with a permanent quality control record for every bolt; monitoring the safety and productivity.
Swellex HC1-L and EC1-L pumps can be used for semi-mechanized installation, separating grip and expansion functions through remote control. These pumps allow easy switching between 240 and 300 bars. They can also be used as a high pressure washer.
Swellex hydraulic smart pump
Equipped with data logging features, designed to assure the quality of installation.
The hydraulic Swellex pump HC1-L is designed to assure the quality of installation by controlling the inflation until the required pressure is reached.
It maintains the required pressure for a set period of time to assure perfect installation of the Swellex rock bolts.
The Swellex HC1-L pump offers data logging, that can be retrieved via a CANbus port or downloaded via USB or Bluetooth.
Swellex electric smart pumps
With data logging features, designed to assure the quality of installation.
The Swellex EC1-L pump offers data logging, that can be retrieved via a CANbus port or downloaded via USB or Bluetooth. It is a robust, fast and quiet high pressure pump that can be adapted to any type of rig or equipment where electricity is available.
The electric Swellex EC1-L pump can be used for manual, semi-mechanised or fully mechanised bolting. They can be ordered with required current and voltage (depending on geographical location).
High pressure wash and remote control features.
